Do everything the hard way?

One day we were installing a Steeping tub made of cast iron in an upstairs master bath. We had fabricated  a  laundry chute under an oak step at the foot of the tub. This was so the owner could lift the step and kick her clothes into the chute and down to the laundry where there was a cabinet to catch all.

Anyway, Wayne C, a year older classmate who had sat next to me in typing class and took special joy in removing my roller during timed typing tests….he said he was just trying to slow me down 'cause I was moving way too fast…Wayne, now my experienced plumber, asked a really good question, “Do you always do everything the hard way?”

We were hoisting this costly 400 pound enamel tub into a pre-finished platform cabinet with tile top and four guys with eight arms struggling in a small room and it was giving us all fits.  I just wanted it to seat perfectly into its tiled recess.  At the time I didn't really understand the question. Wasn't everyone interested in creating the best, most perfect solution to the problem?

Sometimes I guess I do do everything the hard way…..
