Fall Leaf Assignment (3)
OBJECTIVES:
The word Photography comes from two words: photo = light, and graphy = drawing. When you are taking pictures you are drawing with light. People tend to get hung up with the technology of photography. Cameras are cool little contraptions, Photoshop can do a lot of fun stuff, but the heart and soul of the image comes from your use of light. To use it effectively you need to know the different options you have and what each option looks like. This assignment should help you to understand and apply the different light options more effectively.

PROCEDURES:
The subject for this assignment is fall leaves. The leaves are turning right now so I wouldn't wait to long to start this. Besides looking for interesting colors and compositions, consider how the light is striking the leaves. Try photographing leaves in a tree with the light coming from behind or from the side. Try photographing leaves in the water or with drops of water or moisture on them. Try photographing with diffused light (on a cloudy day), or with hard direct light (on a sunny day-if you can find one : ). Remember, when you are photographing you are drawing with light. Use the light in a creative way. Feel free to move the leaves from their original location.
For this assignment use the 3 characteristics of light in a creative way:
Quality - Is the light hard or soft? A cloudy day provides soft light, a sunny day hard light. You can also find soft light in the shadows on a sunny day.
Quantity - Bright sunlight is more intense than light in the shadows.
Direction - Is the light coming from behind, in front of, or on the side of the subject?
