Use the build menu to bring in photos, files, links to videos or other assets. Slideshow is a great tool if you want to display multiple pictures to demonstrate a skill or interest. This is a tool you can always access quickly on a phone or computer to show a prospective employer, your grandmother or someone who wants to award you a scholarship. And it is a simply way to build movement into your site.
Another great tool is the spacer tool so you can position your text where you wish. I also love the section tool to break off sections like the blue above. |

A professional portfolio page is an asset to you for seeking scholarships, searching for jobs, or getting admitted to post secondary education institutions.
If I were actively seeking clients for my design-build business, for example, I would have a portfolio of past work. It would include house designs (in the form of PDF images, photo galleries like I have on my website under interests, and you tube video links to video of completed jobs. I would also show jobs in progress so people could view the actual construction process. I might also include design work that didn't translate to projects or it could include "how to" information that would be of interest to people visiting my website. For example, I could have a page dedicated to Green Construction or ZERO energy houses or Passive Solar construction. You want to always play to your strengths. |
For Media Students
You will include projects you have done in flash and in video. This means you will upload swf flash files to the flash link that is located in the media section of weebly. If you want to upload video you will want to first create an account on youtube and upload the video to that site; t hen link it to the youtube link under the media section of weebly. You might also have a blog covering topics in media. Or you could do a "How to" section to provide a visitor with tips on creating a project you know how to do and could explain exactly how they could accomplish the same thing. An example might be how to mount a camera in a car to shoot video. It is great if your portfolio shows growth, creativity, or how to solve a problem. |
For Photography Students
Think of your website as an extension of your resume. It's purpose is to demonstrate your skills in a positive way. If you have photography or art interests you need to do this. If you have a music talent, your website is a perfect venue to show your skill. If you have leadership skills, do you have any photos or video that could demonstrate those skills in action. For example, let's say you led a campus cleanup project. That could make an amazing webpage. The key is photos....lots and lots of photos and video, if available. Or maybe you can make things, repair things, care for pets, wash cars, whatever you can do, make it work for you. |
